Les pluies d'avril apportent des fleurs de mai, comme on dit, mais je vous écris avec une forte pluie devant la fenêtre de mon bureau au mois de juin. Je pense que c'est un signe d'espoir que l'eau remplira la terre et nos jardins juste à temps pour les vacances d'été et un repos bien mérité après l’intensité du rythme de l'année scolaire.
These last few months have been busy as always. In April, I had the honor of being appointed an Associate Professor in Practice at Durham University’s School of Education. One of the most rewarding parts of the collaboration between our two institutions is what it brings to Ecolint in terms of pedagogical development and innovation. A closer relationship can only contribute more to our ongoing effort always to do better than our previous best.
MA in International Education: Results of the five bursaries
You may remember that a call for applications was sent in April to apply for a fully funded bursary to complete the MA in International Education with Durham University. Congratulations to our colleagues who have been awarded this opportunity!

Our Initial Teacher Training Programme
On June 5th Ecolint welcomed the PGCE cohort who will begin their initial teacher training in the fall. We look forward to welcoming this richly talented group into our schools and to preparing them for their careers in international education. Tanya Day-Clark, the new Director of the programme was able to join them from Berlin. We are excited about the ways in which we may further develop this programme in the future. I will be working with Tanya on a thorough review of the curriculum in parallel with the work undertaken by our colleagues at Durham University.

Alors que nous planifions l'avenir, nous envisageons l'élaboration de modules qui se concentreront sur des domaines particulièrement importants pour l'éducation internationale (éducation multilingue, éducation à la citoyenneté mondiale, apprentissage fondé sur des concepts et apprentissage universel par conception). En fin de compte, nous avons l'intention de relier ces modules aux possibilités de perfectionnement professionnel continu offertes à tout le personnel et de relier notre programme de perfectionnement professionnel au Programme d'apprentissage universel (ULP).
The 2018-2019 PGCE cohort will celebrate the end of a long year of intense preparation on June 25th, and we hope many of you will be able to join us for this occasion. Trainees have been accepted to positions at a range of schools in the local area, as well as further afield. Many thanks to all colleagues who have supported these new teachers this year, both in their school placements and professional training sessions. I would especially like to thank Jill Bailey, Keith Browne, Steve Cormack and Lisa Parker for all their hard work and commitment to the programme.
Once again, I would like to express my deep gratitude to Alison Ball for developing this excellent programme and for continuing to work with us to ensure a smooth transition for her successor and an equally firm foundation for future growth.
Les cours de l’Institut
Informatique
L'année prochaine, ils se concentreront sur les éléments de la suite Google. Notre formatrice Catherine Moreno offrira des cours de préparation pour une certification de Google Educator. Des heures de permanence supplémentaires pour un coaching individuel ou des formations spécifiques par équipe seront également disponibles.
Anglais et français
Les cours de langues pour le personel et les parents seront proposés par un prestataire externe, avec des cours adaptés aux besoins (vocabulaire professionnel, conversation de base, etc.). Le nouveau programme comprendra une évaluation en ligne avant le commencement du cours, un suivi et des rapports finaux de cours avec certification et niveau officiel d'acquisition linguistique.

Gifted Education and Higher Order Thinking (GEHOT)
This year’s participants ended their last session on a positive note! We all know this to be a significant area for pedagogical focus and further development in our schools. The course will be offered again next academic year.
Even as the school year winds down, the Education Department is already looking forward to important projects that will begin in earnest in the 2019-2020 school year.
Ecolint and Inclusion
En février, Ochan Kusuma-Powell et Kristen Pelletier de Next Frontier Inclusion ont passé quatre jours à l'Ecolint pour étudier de près nos programmes de soutien scolaire (y compris nos programmes ESP). Leur travail s'est fondé sur une vaste gamme de documents fournis par chacune de nos écoles, les résultats d’un sondage, les observations en classe et les discussions de groupe. Nous avons la chance de pouvoir tirer parti de leur sagesse et de leur expérience acquise dans les écoles internationales du monde entier, qui cherchent, comme nous, à offrir aux élèves le meilleur environnement éducatif possible, étayé par la recherche. Leur rapport et leurs recommandations serviront de base pour un groupe de travail sur l'inclusion nommé en mai et qui travaillera en étroite collaboration avec moi à mesure que nous progresserons ensemble pour devenir une école toujours plus inclusive.
CIS/MSA/IB Synchronised Evaluation
David Hawley and I began conversations with representatives from CIS and the IB last October and for the first time, in 2021 Ecolint will undertake a synchronised evaluation visit for all programmes in the Foundation. The preparatory evaluation visit will take place from November 19-22, 2019 at which point we will form the self study committees to prepare the final report for submission in the fall of 2020. While there is a lot of work to do in preparation for this review, the process of community self-reflection is invaluable and will afford us an opportunity to think through our mission, vision and purpose as an institution. I look forward to working with you on this project.

Les processus de la pensée
Cette année, l'Ecolint a adopté ses dix principes d'apprentissage fondés sur la recherche. Inspirés par le travail collectif sur le Creating Cultures of Thinking du Project Zero, nous avons commencé à partager à travers la Fondation les façons dont nous contribuons à modifier pour le mieux la culture de notre école et l'environnement d'apprentissage.
Le cinquième principe de l'apprentissage, "Renforcer la compréhension par une culture de la pensée", englobe à bien des égards notre compréhension globale de la façon dont l'apprentissage se déroule et de l'importance de rendre notre pensée visible, pour nous mêmes et pour les autres. La pensée visible favorise la compréhension métacognitive et permet d'explorer et de révéler la complexité de la compréhension.
